Fun Hikes Near Our Inexpensive Portland Motel

If you have time to take in some iconic Pacific Northwest outdoor beauty while visiting Portland, you might consider going on a hike to one of several pristine landmarks that are not far from our inexpensive Portland motel. There are many beautiful and historic outdoor landmarks to choose from within a half hour’s drive or less, each featuring a great opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air any time of the year.

Powell Butte is the closest hiking spot to our motel and is very popular with the locals. The butte, an extinct cinder volcano, is situated on over 600 acres of meadowland and forest that reaches to the headwaters of Johnson Creek. This site still features remnants of native fish populations including salmon and steelhead. Here you will find a 4.5-mile winding loop that gains little elevation, so it’s good for the whole family.

Latourell Falls is a bit further, but worth the drive. It features breathtaking waterfalls and a short 2.5-mile loop that gains less than 600 feet in elevation making it another great option for families to enjoy. If you venture further into the Columbia River Gorge, you will come upon a plethora of wonderful hiking options, including world-famous Multnomah Falls. There, three beautiful waterfalls dot a trail that gains just over 800 feet in elevation. It’s quite popular with locals and tourists alike, and a great opportunity to take photos. You will find plenty of parking at the trailhead.

There’s no shortage of fun outdoor hikes near our inexpensive Portland motel, even in winter. Whether you are in town for business or pleasure, consider checking out some of the beautiful outdoor scenery that is conveniently located just down the road from our comfy motel. You’ll be glad you did!
